Translating and interpreting is a wonderful profession, but often a rather seasonal one. Sometimes, you’re almost drowning in assingments, while there’s not much work going around at other times. For me, it’s essential to have a kind of balance, especially during busy times. I’ve actually found several things that help me take a break and catch my breath whenever I feel like there’s (too) much going on:
Laarni
Laarni is my dog. She was born on 01 September 2021 and she’s the fluffiest dog I’ve ever owned (and the first one). Thanks to her, I can easily justify leaving my desk for at least an hour every afternoon and enjoying nature. Should I ever forget, she makes sure to stare at me accusingly until I notice.
Music
Music is something that’s been part of my life since I was young. I play several instruments, the latest the piano, which I’ve been trying to teach myself, and I love dancing. If I ever feel like it’s too much, I’m happy to put on my headphones, listen to my favourite artists and forget the world around me.
Knitting
Knitting is a wonderful hobby and a great contrast to interpreting and translating. There is nothing more relaxing than watching my favourite TV show at the end of a long working day and knitting a soft pair of socks for next winter.
